Tteokbokki Simple Recipe

 

 

Ingredients

  • 200g of rice cakes (use fresh or frozen rice cakes)
  • 2-3 fish cakes (you can also use squid, shrimp, etc. if preferred)
  • 1 onion (adjust the quantity based on size)
  • 1 scallion (use more if you like scallions)
  • 1 tablespoon of cooking oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 green chili pepper (optional, for extra spiciness)
  • 100g of kimchi (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of red pepper paste (gochujang)
  • 1-2 tablespoons of red pepper flakes (adjust for desired spiciness)
  • 1-2 tablespoons of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of corn syrup (or rice syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon of minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

 

Recipe

1. Prepare the fish cakes, onion, scallion, and cooking oil. Thinly slice the onion and scallion.

2. Use the green part of the scallion along with the sliced onion, reserving the white part for the sauce.

3. Heat the cooking oil in a medium-sized pan. Start by stir-frying the fish cakes until they become brown and crispy.

4. Remove the fish cakes from the pan, then stir-fry the sliced onion and scallion until they become transparent.

5. Pour 1 cup of water into the pan with the cooked onion and scallion.

6. Once the water is boiling, add the red pepper paste, red pepper flakes, sugar, soy sauce, corn syrup, and minced garlic. Mix well to create a flavorful sauce.

7. Let the sauce simmer until it thickens. Then, add the fish cakes and rice cakes, stirring continuously until they are well coated with the sauce.

8. Just before finishing, add kimchi and scallion to the mixture.

9. Finish by drizzling sesame oil over the tteokbokki.

10. Serve in a dish and optionally garnish with sesame seeds.

 

If you desire more spiciness, increase the amount of red pepper paste and red pepper flakes. The process of making tteokbokki is simple, but the taste is excellent. Enjoy your cooking!
