A simple recipe for kimbap

Kimbap Recipe

Ingredients

- 10 sheets of seaweed (kim)

- 3 tablespoons of rice vinegar

- 1 teaspoon of salt

- 1 tablespoon of sugar

- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil

- 4 cups of rice

- 1 carrot (thinly sliced)

- 100g of sweet potato starch noodles (dangmyeon), soaked and drained

- 100g of spinach, blanched and drained

- 100g of imitation crab meat (kanikama), thinly sliced

- 2 eggs, cooked as a thin omelette and thinly sliced

- 2 sausages, boiled and thinly sliced

 

Soy Sauce Dip

- 4 tablespoons of soy sauce

- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil

- 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds

- 1 teaspoon of sugar

- 1 teaspoon of minced green onion

- 1 teaspoon of minced garlic

 

Instructions

1. Mix rice vinegar, salt, sugar, and sesame oil together, then add it to the rice. Mix well to evenly season the rice and set aside to cool.

2. Toast the seaweed sheets on a dry pan until they become slightly crispy. Place a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface and lay a sheet of toasted seaweed on top.

3. Spread a thin layer of seasoned rice onto the seaweed, leaving about 3cm of space at the top edge.

4. Arrange various fillings on the rice. Place the carrot, sweet potato starch noodles, blanched spinach, imitation crab meat, sliced egg, and sausage in the center.

5. Roll the seaweed tightly around the fillings while gently pressing down to shape the roll. Moisten the top edge of the seaweed with water and press to seal the roll.

6. Wrap the roll with the bamboo sushi mat to secure its shape. Moisten the edge with water and press to seal the end.

7. Transfer the rolled kimbap onto a cutting board and wrap it with plastic wrap. Let it rest for about 5 minutes to set.

8. Slice the kimbap into bite-sized pieces using a sharp knife.

 

Soy Sauce Dip

1. Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, sugar, minced green onion, and minced garlic to make the dipping sauce.

2. Serve the sliced kimbap with the prepared soy sauce dip.
